STEP #1

Ingredients

  • Flour = 1kg
  • Water (warm) = 0.5L
  • Dry yeast = 1 small pack
  • Olive oil = 100ml
  • Sugar = 1tsp
  • Salt = 1tbsp

Prepare

Before anything, the first thing you should do is prepare all the ingredients listed above by placing them on your table or countertop. You should also have all the tools and equipment you will need set up and ready to go. By doing this, you will spend less time running around searching or looking for things. One of the keys to success is preparation, so make sure you have control of the kitchen as much as possible.

Mix

Now that you’re prepared to get going, it’s time to follow the recipe to bake an amazing bread of your own making. You want to pick a bowl big enough to fit all the ingredients in. After you have chosen your bowl, mix all the ingredients into the bowl one by one. It doesn’t have to be in order, just make sure your measurements are correct.

Knead

Once you have mixed all the ingredients together, it will then be ready for you to knead. As you knead the dough, make sure that all the ingredients are mixed well. It always pays off to be thorough, so make this part of the process count by kneading until the dough feels firm, flexible, and moldable.

STEP #2

Rest

The next step is very simple and easy. When you’re done with the mixing and kneading, you need to leave the dough in the bowl to let it rest. Doughs that are made using white flour usually require more resting time than whole-meal dough’s. The resting can take minutes to hours (depending on the ingredients), so keep an eye out for signs if it’s rested enough, such as doubling in size and if the dent you make on the dough doesn’t disappear. This means that the dough is ready to be shaped and baked.

Cover

You also need to place a towel (any kind of clean towel) over the bowl to cover it to prevent the dough from drying out. As a precaution, you might want to place the bowl in a place that won’t be disturbed, such as by pets or children.

STEP #3

Chop

While you wait for the dough to rest, you can chop olives in the meantime. The size to cut them into and how much you want to chop is up to you. Always try to use fresh fruits as these have greater health and taste benefits.

Mix

When the dough has finished resting and you’ve cut up your desired amount of olives, it’s time to mix the two together. The dough should be moldable at this stage, so all the olives should blend in nicely and evenly apart.

Mold

After you’ve mixed all the dough, you now want to shape it into your desired shape, preferably a long cylinder shape (think of a hotdog bun). You can make the shape short or long, but just make sure the dough isn’t too stretched as it will expand in the oven.

STEP #4

Bake

Finally, the moment we all wait for, the baking. Your dough is now ready to be placed on a baking tray. Remember, the dough will expand, so use a tray that will compensate for this. The oven should be set to 180-200°C. It’s best to have it warmed up in advance or for a minute or two before placing the dough inside. Once inside, set a timer for 50 minutes, but check the baking process every now and then to make sure all is cooking well.

Stand

Now the end result! After about 50 minutes, grab the tray (with oven mitts, of course) and let the bread stand for 20-30 minutes. After which, you are free to eat and enjoy your deliciously homemade bread with olives!
